Route descriptions

From Cape Town

1. Travel along the N7 from Cape Town past Springbok to Vioolsdrif. Pass through the border at Noordoewer. From Noordoewer in Namibia the N7 becomes the B1.
2. Travel along the B1 northwards until about 4km short of Mariental.
3. Turn left (in a westerly direction) on the C19 and travel to Maltahöhe.
4. Pass straight through Maltahöhe (the road now becomes gravel) to a T-junction.
5. Turn right (north) at the T-junction and travel in the direction of Walvis Bay on the C14.
6. About 13.4km from the T-junction at Maltahöhe turn left (west) onto the D850.
7. Travel along the D850 in a north-westerly direction (past the turnoff for the D831). After a further 69.5km on the D850, the D855 turns off to the right. Keep going on the D850, following the Zebra River Lodge signs (Zebra River Lodge is on a neighbouring farm).
8. Shortly after passing over a cattle gate the road starts dropping down the escarpment (Remhoogte).
9. The Kyffhäuser main gate is on the right hand side of the D850 road, approximately 6.5km from the D855 turnoff. The farm gate is approximately 90km from Maltahöhe.

From Johannesburg/Pretoria/Upington

1. Travel along the N12 from Johannesburg past Ventersdorp, Delareyville, Vryburg, Kuruman, Sishen to Upington. Take the N10 from Upington to the Nakop/Ariamsvlei border post. Pass through the border. From Ariamsvlei in Namibia the N10 becomes the B3.
2. Travel along the B3 through Karasburg to Grünau.
3. At Grünau turn right (north) at the T-junction onto the B1 and travel northwards to Keetmanshoop and Mariental.
4. Now follow instructions 'From Cape Town' from step ii.

From Windhoek (Preferred route)

1. Travel southwards along the B1 to Rehoboth. Travel through Rehoboth along the B1.
2. Turn right (west) onto route C24/MR47 (approximately 4.7km from the BP garage in Rehoboth). The C24/MR47 is a gravel road.
3. Proceed through Kobos, Klein Aub en Rietoog.
4. Turn right (west) onto the D1206 approximately 1.5km south of Rietoog. (Approximately 108km after leaving the tar road at Rehoboth and turning onto the C24/MR47).
5. Proceed for approximately 28km along the D1206 until a T-junction where the D1206 meets the C14 (between Maltahöhe and Walvis Bay)
6. Turn left (south) onto the C14 (in the direction of Maltahöhe) and travel past Büllsport.
7. Turn right (west) onto the D854 (approximately 0.9km from the D1206 turnoff). Follow the D854 for approximately 39km until you reach the D850 joining from the left (southeast).
8. Turn left (southeast) onto the D850. Follow the Neuras and Zebra River Lodge signs (Neuras and Zebra River are neighbouring farms).
9. Drive past Tsauchab River Camping (on the left), Neuras (on the left) and Zebra River (on the right). Travel over a cattle grid.
10. The Kyffhäuser main gate is on the left hand side of the D850 road, approximately 22km from the D854 turnoff. The farm gate is approximately 285km from Windhoek.

From Windhoek (Alternative route)

1. Travel southwards along the B1 to Rehoboth. Travel through Rehoboth along the B1.
2. Turn right (west) onto route C24/MR47 (approximately 4.7km from the BP garage in Rehoboth). The C24/MR47 is a gravel road.
3. Proceed through Kobos, Klein Aub en Rietoog.
4. Turn right (west) onto the D1206 approximately 1.5km south of Rietoog. (Approximately 108km after leaving the tar road at Rehoboth and turning onto the C24/MR47).
5. Proceed for approximately 28km along the D1206 until a T-junction where the D1206 meets the C14 (between Maltahöhe and Walvis Bay)
6. Turn left (south) onto the C14 (in the direction of Maltahöhe) and travel past Büllsport. Continue on the C14 past the turnoff of the D854.
7. Turn right (west) onto the D855 (approximately 8.5km from the D1206 turnoff). Follow the D855 for approximately 35km until you reach a T-junction.
8. Turn right (northwest) at the T-junction onto the D850. Follow the Zebra River Lodge signs (Zebra River Lodge is on a neighbouring farm).
9. Shortly after passing over a cattle gate the road starts dropping down the escarpment (Remhoogte).
10. The Kyffhäuser main gate is on the right hand side of the D850 road, approximately 6.5km from the D855 turnoff. The farm gate is approximately 275km from Windhoek.
